10 Fussy Baby Tips For New Parents

When I was browsing the internet, I found an interesting article about funny babies. Yes, especially on fussy babies.Because I think the article was important, then I am forced to copy and paste (in order not to lose the essence of his writings)

As a Health Care provider for women, I see many new Mom’s very overwhelmed with a baby who is really fussy.  Here are my tips for dealing with those babies who just don’t soothe easily after being fed, changed and comforted.

I even included some cool videos for you to watch for a couple of the tips.

Check them out and leave a comment! :)

   1. Try to make the environment as quiet as possible.  Dim the lights, turn off the TV and silence the phone.  They may already be over stimulated if there are loud, non-monotonous sounds around.
   2. Put your baby on her stomach on your chest or lap (but not for sleep!).  A dry washcloth warmed in the microwave under her tummy may feel good.  Remember not to KEEP your baby on their stomach for too long or unattended.  You should only do this if you are in close proximity watching your baby!  Sometimes the pressure on your little one’s belly is soothing
   3. Swaddle your baby.  It gives babies the sense that they are back in the womb and helps them feel more secure.
   4. Repetitive motion such as bouncing gently on the side of the bed with her well supported in your arms often helps.   (See the first video below…)
   5. Take her for a ride in the car.  (I have had patients who took turns driving for several hours because the car was the only place the baby would sleep).  Both the motion and the repetitive sound help to sooth your baby.
   6. Some babies are calmed by loud droning noises such as the sweeper or hair dryer. A fan on low in the bedroom pointed away from your baby will help instill a sense of calm.  (see the second video below…)
   7. Babies who cry for hours may have a medical problem causing them pain.  Consult your baby’s provider.  If your baby is inconsolable, I highly recommend that you see your pediatrician or health care provider.
   8. Take care of yourself!  This is very stressful for any parent.  It is OK to leave the baby in a safe place and walk around the yard.  Arrange for time away (1-2 hours can do wonders).  Babies have their own personalities and responses to the environment just like adults.  Be patient with yourself and your baby.
   9. When someone asks if they can help, take them up on it!  Whether they just bounce with your baby for a few minutes, rock with them in a rocking chair, or try any of the suggestions listed above, this gives you the opportunity to rest.  Take a breather… I know you need one!  Give up your ego for a little while and get some well deserved rest when you can.
  10. Remember- “This too shall pass”!
